Nada Used Car Price Guide

Used Cars Advice

Nada Used Car Values & Nada Book

Nada used car price guide is published by National Automobile Dealers Association. The publication - Nada Book is known for their bright orange color book. Nada car values is another popular used car values guide you should definitely be aware of.

Unlike black book Nada used car price guide caters both car dealerships and end consumers.

As a consumer you wouldn't be able to access "The Official Used Car Guide" which is for dealer-only, the thin pocket book published monthly.

However, the Consumer Retail Edition of Nada book published quarterly. In my opinion, the book is a valuable tool for anyone to research used cars. It’s a thick book details:

  • Average loan value
  • Average trade in
  • Average retail value

In different regions of the country. Nada used car values reflect ACTUAL transactions at dealerships. The book gives very clear instructions on how to determine the classification. Read it carefully so you don't end up paying too much or selling too less for your vehicle.

Dealer’s Strategy

Car dealers usually use the "Official Used Car Guide" to appraise trade-in vehicles, and sell the car using the "Consumer Retail Edition". Or even worse sometimes use the Kelly Blue Book for trade-ins (their values are LOWER than Nada value) and sell cars at "Consumer Retail Edition". And there's GOOD profit margin for dealers.

Please note: the wholesale and retail pricing listed in the Nada book can be higher in some areas than Kelley Blue Book, because Nada guide preset their standard that all trade-ins are in very clean condition.

If you are interested in knowing what Nada car prices of any used vehicles are, you can go to Nada Website at www.nadaguides.com

Select the body style, vehicle make, year and model information etc for detailed pricing information.

My Advice

Do not follow the prices literally.

A guideline is just a guideline. Your actual vehicle may cost higher or lower than the Nada book online!

One last thing I'd like to point out is that you will see the loan value in the Nada book refers to what the bank will loan for the car.

Dealers KNOW that the bank will ONLY finance loan value. So the dealer will sell the car for loan PLUS X amount of dollars for PROFIT.

By having the Nada Guide Book in your hand, you are in a much better position to negotiate and WIN at the end! You can get a print copy of the book at your local book store, gas stations or by Click Here.
