Edmunds Used Car Prices

Edmunds Car Values vs. Kelly Blue Book

Edmunds used car values has become more and more popular those days. Some folks even refer their used car pricing guide as authorities!

According to their website, the company was founded in 1966 for the purpose of publishing new and used automotive pricing guides to assist automobile buyers. And their site edmunds.com has been very active online since 1995.

To my knowledge there is NO PRINTED Edmunds used car prices or pricing guide offered like the other 2 major players: Kelly Blue Book and Nada Guides There is no clear indication about exactly how the data is collected, analyzed to base the form of pricing guide either.

Dealers and other financial institutions do NOT use Edmunds used car values or their pricing guide to appraise Car Trade-in Value.

There’s ongoing debate on their questionable private party sale price and retail pricing information. Also Edmunds and their people do not attend local auctions to record wholesale transactions like Black Book did. So the questions is how accurate is their used car pricing information?

Lower Trade-In Value
& Higher Retail Value

Personally, I do not recommend using the Edmunds used car values to determine the trade-in values, the figures are too inflated!

In my opinion, both Edmunds used car values and Kelley Blue Book are in favor of dealers ie lower on the trade-in value and higher on the retail value.

Some dealers are actually using the Blue Book to set values – which can be a lot less than Nada Book Value.

Remember the value and price are different, and they all relate to each other. A value is something to be considered and perceived. The market both buyers and sellers finally determine the price. Guidelines are just guidelines!

How to Make The Most of It

The author of the site promised to give unbiased opinion on anything related to used cars including this website, and this is what I have to say about Edmunds on the good part!

The site does better jobs on new car pricing than used, they are known for their TOC – true cost to own over times.

If you are looking for a price quote on new vehicles instead, I highly recommend you get a quote from edmunds official site to get the best quote and New Car Pricing is their specialty!

Edmunds - A Fantastic Place
to Research On Used and New Cars

The video section is the best of its kind! You get to see rubber meets the road in action, and how one vehicle stack up against their competitors.

I would suggest using the site as a source of learning used cars, the site did a great job on explaining vehicle features options and model year changes.

Speaking of model year changes, that is one of the used car Valuation Variables you need to take into considerations when you are buying a car. Model year changes could result in thousands of dollars in the price difference!
